Energy Observer is the first hydrogen ship that goes around the world. The first autonomous boat uses energy without emitting greenhouse gases, renewable energy as wind and sun and most importantly hydrogen through energy diversity. This large catamaran is a floating laboratory and will spend 6 years on water. Six years of challenges, adventures and encounters, to test and optimize the energy solutions of tomorrow, but also to discover and share concrete solutions for sustainable development. Of particular interest is the technology for the use of hydrogen. From the automotive sector we know already fuel cell vehicles. However, these need to be refueled regularly – what can be a problem on the wide ocean. Therefore, the Energy Observer produces the hydrogen on site, by cleaving the sea water and storing the necessary for the drive components. Energy Observer will be launched this winter for a phase sea trials before the big departure from Saint-Malo in spring.
